For all the exceptional moments that combined to make yesterday’s All-Ireland semi-final a classic, it was Seamus and Colm Callanan who provided many of the highlights.

So while there was Noel McGrath’s near-fairytale point, Joe Canning’s sideline cut and Shane Moloney’s debut winner, the Callanans both strung together a sequence of great plays.

Seamus, the man-of-the-match, gave us a hat-trick of goals, each one almost identical in their manner.

You’d have forgiven Colm, Galway’s net-minder, for being scarred by conceding a second Championship hat-trick to Seamus in the space of 13 months.

Yet Colm was in no mood for feeling sorry, saving a penalty from the Tipperary goalscorer, as well as producing a lightning quick reaction stop from Lar Corbett and a breathless quadruple save.

In the end Colm came out on the winning side, although Seamus left with a classy tribute to the departing Tipperary manager, Eamon O’Shea:
