Croatia will now face either Argentina or the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Brazil was the heavy favourite going into the game. Although they lost to Cameroon, in a game which ultimately didn’t matter, they have looked like one of if not the best side at the World Cup so far. They easily dispatched South Korea in the round of 16 and took their foot off the pedal in the second half.

Croatia on the other hand have had a rockier journey here, they finished second in their group and almost went out. It took penalties for them to beat Japan in a very close game.
The first half got off to a slow start, with both teams playing with extreme caution. But the game opened up in the second half, Brazil started to move the ball quicker and started to knock on the door with chance after chance. Croatia was happy to sit back and defend, relying on well-timed interceptions and misplaced passes, to hit back on the counterattack.
It was 0-0 all by the end of the 90 minutes and the teams headed into extra time.
Croatia had a great chance but Bruno Petković blazed over. He would live to regret that as Neymar danced through the Croatian defence and after a few one-two’s, fired the ball into the roof of the net.
