After the fight the Algerian went in for a handshake but was unsurprisingly snubbed.

Khelif is one of two fighters that has caused uproar in the boxing community along with Lin Yu‑ting of Taiwan but both were cleared by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete in women’s boxing in Paris.

In her post-fight interview, the Italian said: β€˜I have always honoured my country with loyalty.

β€œThis time I didn’t succeed because I couldn’t fight anymore. So I put an end to the match.”
