FC Barcelona were forced to delete a tweet about Lionel Messi’s tribute to Diego Maradona after fans thought it was disrespectful and distasteful.
The post was in reference to Messi’s tribute to Diego Maradona after the six time ballon d’Or winner scored in Barca’s 4-0 win against Osasuna last Sunday.
It was written in the stars that Messi would score and when he did he revealed a Newell’s Old Boys jersey with No.10 on the back to pay his respects to Argentina legend Diego Maradona after he sadly passed away.
Unfortunately for Barcelona they misread the situation and posted a tweet saying ‘The tribute to Diego Maradona breaks records on FC Barcelona’s social media’ and people were not impressed.
The club were forced to delete a tweet after people found it to be disrespectful and an unnecessary boast considering the circumstances that led to the record number of interactions on Barca’s social media channels.
Here is what the fans had to say.
Delete this man.
