Roscommon football boss Anthony Cunningham thinks the preparation window ahead of the inter-county games is too short.
County teams can resume training from the 14th of September ahead of the completion of the Allianz Football League and the Championship in October.
Cunningham says the short pre-season period poses a big challenge for county managers.
“It is really, really short and I don’t think there has been a proper analysis done of the number of weeks needed.”
“At least it should be five to seven weeks, that would be the norm for a pre-season and I think that has been overlooked.”
“I don’t think there has been enough of an involvement from county managers in those decisions, but it is just really, really short.”
While GAA fans will have to wait a few months for inter-county action, clubs game have already been taking place across the country over the past few days.
A historic event is takes place today as East Belfast GAA will play their first ever game as the men’s senior team play St Michael’s Magherlin.
What makes it significant is that East Belfast has traditionally been a Unionist area and there hasn’t been a club there since the 70s.
Now after only forming earlier this year, the men’s and women’s teams will play their first club games this weekend.
