Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has been ruled out of action for three to four weeks by a hamstring injury.
The problem forced the Wales international to limp off during the early stages of his club’s friendly against Swindon last weekend.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers said at his press conference ahead of Sunday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Stoke: “He (Allen) will probably miss three to four weeks, which is disappointing.
“He certainly won’t be available for the weekend.”
Meanwhile, Rodgers has reported he is optimistic Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge (hip) will make his comeback in early September.
He said: “Daniel will hopefully be back towards the beginning of September – he’s working very hard.”
And with regard to Reds defender Jon Flanagan (knee), Rodgers added: “The great news with Jon is that he’s working really well and is on target to come back just before Christmas, which would be great news for the squad.”
