Roman Abramovich STILL has £2.5bn raised from Chelsea sale… despite claims to the contrary

Labour MP Chris Bryant has claimed that £2.5bn from the sale of Chelsea is still sitting in Roman Abramovich’s bank account.

Abramovich was forced to sell his beloved Chelsea Football Club after being sanctioned by the UK government as a consequence of his alleged ties to Vladimir Putin.

The sale of Chelsea to the Boehly/Clearlake consortium was for a larger fee than any other sports club sale in history, with Abramovich not allowed to see a penny of it.

The idea was that all profits made from Chelsea’s sale would head to victims of the Ukraine-Russia war, that was the promise from Abramovich and his representatives.

However, as reported by the Daily Mail, Labout MP Chris Bryant has claimed that the cash is still sitting in Abramovich’s bank account, months on from the sale’s completion.

Of course, completing a transaction of the value of £2.5bn takes time and Abramovich will want to ensure that his money actually reaches those who are in need.

That said, it’s hard to imagine many being particularly keen on the idea that the cash is still belonging to Abramovich – how long will he hold onto it for?
